Rachel Larsen is a singer, pianist, and arranger with a strong background in classical and contemporary pop music.  She maintains a voice and piano music studio working with students across San Mateo and Foster City in the Bay Area Peninsula and online.  

Growing up in a Filipino-American family, Rachel was raised with ballads, love songs, and contemporary worship music. Rachel's music performances often feature her arrangements of pop, classical, jazz and everything in between. She currently performs with the jazz-pop duo, Ballads & Daydreams, is a member of The Golden Gate Belles, a professional a cappella quartet, and is an active member of the A Capella Collective. Past and current professional work includes performances with The San Francisco Symphony Chorus, The Philippine Saringhimig Singers, and The Archdiocese of San Francisco and The Archdiocese of Oakland. 

Rachel began as a highly motivated music student herself, taking voice and piano lessons from a young age.  As someone who took piano and voice lessons from a young age, Rachel understands the experience and needs of children who go on to build long-term relationships with their music teachers. While every student and parent's goals are unique, one goal we commonly share is to develop and encourage a skill and appreciation of music to last a lifetime. 

As a teacher, Rachel is patient, warm, and open-minded.  She is known to have a nurturing personality, whose approach towards music education values play and opportunities for students to determine their own musical interests. Many of Rachel's students perform pop, jazz, musical theater, and classical music.  Highly motivated pianists and singers participate in ABRSM exam testing. Middle school and high school students have landed lead roles or solos in school musicals or concerts. And every student in Rachel's studio benefits from her love of playing games with plenty of music theory games and activities for singers and pianists.   

Rachel has completed certification through Vocology in Practice, David Stroud Teacher Training: Contemporary Music, Shannon Coates Teacher Training: Child Pedagogy, and The Full Voice: Child Pedagogy.  She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Minor in Special Education from San Francisco State University.
